September 27, 2006

I had lunch with a friend last week while taking my kids to the park.  We discussed what she would like to see in the e-mail newsletters.  We discussed child soldiers, child abduction, child prostitution, and some of the other issues facing parents.  I couldn't help but keep thinking on how to open up a  discussion on those issues in a parenting newsletter.  Unfortunately, it is part of parenting.  Teaching our children how to be safe, street smart, and to understand dangers in our society.  And this is for every age, toddlers through college kids.  So, I will be sending articles on the above issues out in some of our newsletters.  If you would like to have information and articles about any other issues that you face as a parent, please send us an e-mail and we will be happy to open up discussions on these topics.

We also want to encourage you to pass this newsletter on to your friends. We are having a RAFFLE for anyone who registers on the site until November 1. They can win a family 4 pack to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Pumpkins in the Park
Saturday, October 14, 2006   10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Discovery Meadow, Guadalupe River Park

It’s time again for Pumpkins in the Park!  This is a great family event.  Pumpkins in the Park is a celebration of the environment, the Guadalupe River, and the fall harvest season.  Admission is free.

A bright orange pumpkin patch and a fanciful scarecrow display will welcome you to the park.  We’ll have varieties of specialty apples to taste, fresh pressed apple cider, and entertainment by popular children’s entertainers the Banana Slug String Band, Zun Zun and many more.  There will be tons of fun activities for children, including pumpkin decorating, puppet shows, environmental education activities and the chance to learn some traditional circus arts from Cosmo the Clown.  Help us celebrate Fire Prevention Week with the San Jose Fire Department by exploring the fire trucks that will be on display.

A variety of food and beverages will be available for sale.  There will also be free promotional items given away throughout the day.  Pumpkins in the Park will be held at Discovery Meadow, near the Children’s Discovery Museum, in the Guadalupe River Park. Admission is free, parking is convenient, and the site is adjacent to a VTA light rail station. Click for details.
