Halloween is upon us and there are many activities happening around Santa Clara County.  It is also time to discuss safety issues with your children.  Here are some suggestions:

  • It is best to accompany your child while they are out trick-or-treating.  If you cannot accompany them, ask them to stay within your neighborhood and give them a flashlight and cell phone.
  • Ask them to stay on the sidewalks and cross the street at the cross walk and look both ways.
  • You should fix reflective or glow-in-the-dark tape to the costume or have them wear a reflective band or bike reflector.
  • Be sure the costume fits well and doesn't drag the ground so your child does not trip and fall.
  • Clean up your yard and front door area.
  • Turn your lights on so children can get to your door safely.
  • Keep your pets inside.
  • Limit the amount of candy your child eats and don't forget to brush their teeth!
